Innovative medical devices inspired by clinical experience, including a vascular cushion to prevent DVT and a nose-clip to stop nose bleeds, will be sold to the UK public through a major chain of retail pharmacies.
Numark, a 'virtual chain' of over 2000 independent pharmacies in the UK, will stock a range of medtech products from Medical Devices Technology International Ltd (MDTi).
Wolverhampton-based company MDTi develops and commercialises medical devices based on ideas from NHS clinicians and patients.
"From the inception of MDTi, the company's mantra has been to ensure that access to improved healthcare products at affordable prices was a right and not a pledge to the consumer health marketplace," said Martin Levermore, CEO of MDTi. "We are over the moon to be working with the national chain of retail pharmacies, Numark, who have shown how much they are in-tune with our philosophy and those of the UK consumers."
Dr David Gleaves, CEO of MidTECH NHS Innovation West Midlands, commented: "Innovative companies like MDTi play a vital role in translating [new NHS ideas] into products and bringing these products to market. As the organisation charged with bringing NHS innovations and industry together, MidTECH is delighted that, as one of our leading licensees, MDTI has secured a partnership with Numark, ensuring that these products are available to the wider community in pharmacies throughout the UK."
The products initially available will be: the Physio-master, a self-inflating cushion for vascular conditions, stroke conditions and prevention of DVT; the Ortho-Glide, for rehabilitation after knee and hip surgery; the Femmax, a set of vaginal dilators for use after pelvic radiotherapy and for sexual dysfunction; and the RhinoPinch, a nose-clip to stem nose bleeds.
