Software development company Conduco has launched Real Time Locating Systems (RTLS) technology for use in hospital care.
The system uses RFID technology to locate key medical devices at crucial times, improving patient care and reducing equipment loss. It can also be used to locate people - for example, if a particular consultant is needed in an emergency.
In addition to its wireless technology, Conduco's RTLS system uses the less expensive and more accurate infrared technology for room-level location.
David Nicholls, Managing Director of Conduco, said: "We completed some intensive research on real time tracking devices and what they could be used for, and realised that, with the right technology, they were a perfect solution to driving cost and risk out of NHS operations. We believe that with RTLS deployed, equipment inventories can be reduced by around 20%. This is a very significant cost saving.
"Typically 20% of devices used within the NHS are not maintained on time, as they cannot be easily located within the hospital when routine maintenance is required or critical safety alerts are issued. There is clearly a gap in the market for a reliable and affordable solution to this problem, and we feel our systems fit the bill perfectly."
Based in Manchester, Conduco was formerly known as Smart ID.
