Hearing aid control wins design award

A discreet pen-shaped remote control to adjust the volume and program of a hearing aid has received an international red dot award for product design.

The ePen from Siemens Hearing Instruments was judged outstanding in its level of innovation, functionality and symbolic standing.

This year's red dot awards saw more than 4000 entries and 1600 participants from 57 countries. The award will be presented to Siemens at a gala event in Essen, Germany on the 5th July. It is the ePen's second design award.

Shaped like a fountain pen, the ePen enables the user to adjust the volume and program of a hearing aid by turning the cap.

Trevor Andrews, Managing Director of Siemens Hearing Instruments in the UK, said: "We are delighted to receive this international award. It is a clear recognition of our commitment to deliver innovations that make a real difference to the daily life of the hearing-impaired."

The ePen can be used with Siemens Pure, Life, Motion and Nitro SP BTE hearing instruments. The range offers assistance with nearly every kind of hearing impairment.

Based in Crawley, West Sussex, Siemens Hearing Instruments Ltd provides a range of digital hearing instruments, patient management systems and audiology equipment to the NHS and retailers in the UK.
