MedtechBusiness the gateaway to a commercial career in healthcare

Brandon Medical represents UK business

Medical lighting specialist Brandon Medical has been chosen to represent the UK in the 2010 European Business Awards.

The Leeds-based SME has been shortlisted for the Business Innovation of the Year Award and the Business of the Year Award.

The company is one of 25 Country Representatives competing for a Ruban d'Honneur. The final winners will be announced in Paris in November.

The European Business Awards are dedicated to promoting companies that display the three key principles of innovation, business excellence and sustainability.

Brandon Medical has reached the innovation shortlist for its medical lighting technology and video medical teaching and training system. It has reached the business shortlist for doubling the size of its business every three years for the past nine years, and supporting other Yorkshire businesses.

The company has won 11 innovation awards in the last two years for its surgical lighting technology HD-LED, a high-quality system that is environmentally friendly and cheap to produce. Its teaching and training system for surgical skills is widely used in university teaching hospitals.

Graeme Hall, Managing Director of Brandon Medical, said: "We've been operating for over 15 years in the medical industry, and it's an honour to be recognised as one of the leading organisations in our country and in our field. The European Business Awards is widely recognised as the showcase for Europe's most dynamic companies. We're looking forward to the next round of the competition where we'll be competing across Europe."

"Over the past four years we've received an incredibly high standard of entries from organisations," commented Adrian Tripp, CEO of Business Awards. "However, very few get the chance to fly the flag for their country and compete across Europe to be recognised as one of the EU's leading companies."
