Four of the five Labour Health Ministers have lost their seats to Conservative Party candidates.
The impact of the election defeats will force Labour to reconstruct its health team almost entirely, regardless of its status in the hung Parliament.
Health Ministers Ann Keen, Mike O'Brien and Gillian Merron, as well as Care Services Minister Phil Hope, all lost their seats to the Conservative Party.
Health Secretary Andy Burnham was the only member of the Labour health team to keep his seat - with more than twice as many votes as the Tory candidate for his seat in Leigh.
Ann Keen lost her Brentford and Isleworth seat to her Tory opponent Mary Macleod, who polled almost 2,000 more votes, while Gillian Merron and Mike O'Brien were narrowly beaten for their seats in Lincoln and Warwickshire North respectively.
In contrast, all five members of the Tory health team kept their seats, including Shadow Health Secretary Andrew Lansley. Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary Norman Lamb also held onto his seat.
