Hydrogel patch boosts male fertility

A specialist medtech SME based at Nottingham's BioCity development is supplying hydrogel cooling patches to improve male fertility.

Allmi-Care Ltd has signed an agreement to supply its FertilMate patches worldwide (except in the USA) via Babystart Ltd, a UK-based fertility products supplier.

The first product of its kind on the market, FertilMate helps to boost improve sperm production by reducing testicular temperature.

A specialist in therapeutic patch development, Allmi-Care has a product range that includes patches for pain relief and aromatherapy. The application of its cooling patches in the fertility products market will take the company's business growth to a new level.

Allmi-care's Founding Director, Alan Marsh, was initially contacted by Babystart via the Internet. "We are constantly looking for new and innovative uses for our patches," he said. "Ideas can come from anywhere and at any time, but with BioCity's help we have made great strides in both our product innovation and business contacts. You could call it 'guided serendipity'."

With the aid of the Healthcare and Bioscience iNet, also located in BioCity, Allmi-Care is now working with East Midlands universities to look at how applied nanotechnology could give the hydrogel patches additional features and benefits.

BioCity's CEO, Dr Glenn Crocker, commented: "Allmi-Care was one of the earliest BioCity companies and has made the most of everything a bio-incubator can offer. I am delighted to see further development of the Allmi-Care product range."

The BioCity Nottingham development houses 70 early-stage and growing life science and bioscience companies.
