A new digital mammography suite ordered by the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust updates its breast screening service with patient-friendly scanners.
The five Mammomat Inspiration Full Field Digital mammography systems will mark Siemens Healthcare's 500th delivery of this product.
Three units will be installed at the Mermaid Centre in Truro, the region's breast screening service facility. The other two will be located on mobile trailers, providing asymptomatic imaging in outlying regions.
The Inspirations at the Mermaid Centre will connect to Siemens' syngo MammoReport workstations, which allow mammograms to be read and reported, enable data integration, and link to the Trust's PACS system for storage and evaluation.
The Mammomat Inspiration combines patient comfort with high throughput in busy screening environments. After each examination, the system automatically opens the patient scheduler and only one mouse click is needed to set up the user interface for the next examination.
Simon Bromage, Unit Manager at the Mermaid Centre, said: "We were looking for a mammography system that could provide the best possible patient experience in order to create state-of-the-art facilities for the ladies of Cornwall. The Inspiration offered everything that we needed. We will also have a platform for offering 3D breast tomosynthesis in the future by a simple technology upgrade rather than equipment refreshment."
"The installations at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust mark the success of the Mammomat Inspiration as we look forward to completing the 500th delivery worldwide," said Vince Golledge, Regional Sales and Corporate Business Manager at Siemens Healthcare. "Refreshing the breast screening service within Cornwall will give clinical staff access to the latest imaging equipment while patients can be assured of a more comfortable and detailed experience."
