Cellnovo, a London-based medical device company, has formed a strategic partnership with US company Home Diagnostics, combining technologies to enable wireless control of type 1 diabetes worldwide.
The alliance creates distribution opportunities for Cellnovo's groundbreaking insulin patch pump, integrated with Home Diagnostics' technology for blood glucose monitoring.
Home Diagnostics' portfolio of blood glucose monitoring products and systems is available worldwide via pharmacies and distributors.
In the first phase of the partnership, Home Diagnostics' TRUE blood glucose meter will be integrated into the Cellnovo wireless mobile handset. The companies will use Home Diagnostics' distribution network to expand Cellnovo's presence in the USA and elsewhere.
The Cellnovo insulin pump is the industry's smallest patch pump and the first to offer wireless, touchscreen control. The integration of the TRUE blood glucose meter into the Cellnovo handset means patients can use the same device to monitor their blood sugar and record their insulin use, meals and activity levels. The glucose readings are stored and can be sent wirelessly to clinicians and family members.
"We are extremely excited about our partnership with Home Diagnostics," said Bill McKeon, CEO of Cellnovo. "On a technical level, it will provide our customers with the most advanced blood glucose monitoring technology available today within our mobile handset. From a business perspective, it provides an extensive distribution network that includes 45,000 points of distribution, leading insurance companies and major product order suppliers."
"Our agreement with Cellnovo allows us to leverage the emerging opportunities in the insulin pump market through the most innovative pump system in the industry," said Joseph H. Capper, President of Home Diagnostics. "We look forward to helping Cellnovo bring the convenience, ease-of-use and wireless capabilities of their visionary product to diabetes patients throughout the US and beyond."
